Ferguson 35 rear axle bearing

I have pulled the left axle on my 59"Ferg 35. I want to replace seals but also bearing. I cut axle collar off with grinder, but how should I remove bearing? Can I get it off myself or should I have someone press it off? Thanks

The bearing and housing are usually pressed off with a jig mounted in a hydraulic press, or removed with a puller and long threaded rods.
Some will come quite freely if they have been apart many times in the past.
You could try inverting the axle assembly, and dropping it onto a large block of wood. I would offer it a bit more help and thump it onto the block, BUT watch your fingers! The housing will move up and down on the axle.
If it fails to budge, a press and jig is the answer.
see how you go,
Evan.

Masseynut has it right. Some come off okay by thumping the axle on a wood block, but others will hold fast. I replaced my bearings last year and they did not want to come off even with a hydraulic press. It will take a tall shop press because of the length of the axle. Good luck.

Hi, to add to what Evan has said;
I have found that dropping the axle end-on onto an anvil does work. It is vital that it is dropped squarely for maximum impact and not to risk damaging the end of the shaft.
With due respect this is not a job for a gentleman of senior years as it can require a great deal of physical effort....but it's very rewarding when the hub does fall off.
