MF 255 no start

Hi. New here. Recently bought a MF 255 with 2690 hours. In overall OK condition. Starts and runs like a top. A lot of deferred maintenance. Changed the oil & filter. There was some oil on sides of engine. Decided to Gunk and rinse to try to confirm valve cover gasket leak. After I did that, no start. Not even a solenoid click. I discovered one of the Neutral safety switch wires had broken off from the bullet connector, even though i used a very gentle water pressure with no hose attachment. I bought a new neutral switch and basic bullet connectors from Advanced auto parts. Still no click ! Maybe I haven't crimped the wires correctly into the new connectors ? Could it be the connectors themselves ? The old ones appeared brass. These new elCheapos appear to be aluminum with plastic. I haven't tried to jump the switch yet. Any direction appreciated. Many thanks

Had same problem on my 255 a few years ago. Reworked neutral switch wires and terminals. Clean your battery terminals--have had repeated problem with film collecting on the terminals.

Also check the fuse for the dash. If that one is blown our 285 won't start.

Have you tried to jump the two larger connections at the solenoid after taking the endless safety precautions? If so you can eliminate the solenoid and focus on the safety wires/key switch. The other posters are on the money, always something else to look for. That is an awesome tractor!

First off--PLEASE don't think I'm trying to be a smart ask, but did you double check & make sure the high/low and gearshift were both in neutral? Also did you double check to see if the shut off was pushed in. Now don't ask me how I arrived at this LOL (I've had both create problems for me when I forgot them) Believe it or not, it really is a common mistake. Hope you get it going, they are darned good tractors, I wouldn't want to trade mine. Keith
