Please help with my Massey 55

I have recently pulled my grandfathers !953 Massey Harris 55 out of storage. We started to change fluids but I can not find proper oil filer. By application through napa it should either be a 1503 or 7290 but neither is right. The original number from massey harris parts book is 760 999 m1 but no on can cross it. Filter is approx. 8inches tall 4 1/2 inches wide and the problem is that the center hole needs to be 7/8 not smaller. I am not sure if oil filter housing was changed at one time from another unit. Any help would be awesome thanks
 
I have had a similar experience with special ordering filters and having them not fit. I have a 1948 MH55 and found a workable filter at TSC. I don"t remember the actual filter number, but it was the second choice in their tractor oil filter book. The first choice did not work for me. I believe it started with a "C". I can check this weekend.
 
760 999 m1, that number crosses to a wix 57290 canister filter.

W 57290 crosses to Fram C230. C230 is probably at TSC
 
I have ordered mine from thge local Mack/Volvo trucks dealer. Luberfiner filters. Can't recall number right now, but the C230 Fram number is correct. Fram doesn't make them anymore. Som eone should be able to cross reference it. Will check Luberfiner filter number at the house tonight...
 
Believe it or not, when I restored my 101 Senior, the filter was still the old string type you see in the manual. I took the housing down to Napa, and they found a filter that fit.

Fram did not stop making C230 it is at Advanceautoparts for $10.99

Good to know. Last time I tried to get C230"s (Direct from Fram) I was unable to order them. They showed zero stock in thier warehouse. Again ordering through truck dealer, direct ship from vendor... Ended up getting Cummins Fleetgaurd LF-526 filters repackaged in Luberfiner boxes. Will have to try the C230 again.
