MF 65hp blowing 'smoke' through oil filler vent?!

A friend says his 6 year old MF has suddenly started "smoking" back through the oil filler vent. It is gray smoke and not burning. Oil level hasn"t dropped nor has the radiator coolant. Says engine is not missing and has full power. So what is making this happen?? Could it be a stuck valve? Your help appreciated

If smoke is coming from crankcase it doesn't sound good bottom end is getting weak (bearings)maybe someone will chime in with better news for your friend.

This is called "Blow-By". Comes from combustion getting by the rings and putting pressure in the crankcase. Said "no power loss" so don't think a valve is stuck, can he hear a ticking/slapping noise? Could also get by the valve/stem if there is a burnt spot on the valve face. Gas engine?

Farm boy way to check for leaky valves: Pull the engine through by hand with a socket on the crannk pulley bolt. On each compression stroke, listen at the muffler and intake for hissing. If you can hear it at the exhaust, the exhaust valve is leakiing, At the air cleaner, it's the intake valve. At the oil filler, it's broken rings.

It's not natural for me to sound like an optimist (?)...but... if the proper breather vent from the valve cover down, is plugged... with old grease, BEES??? then the air pressure inside has to come out the next best vent, which would be the dipstick and filler cap.... now that would be a cheap fix if not easy one. Good luck if it's hornets....
