three point lift problem on a MF 1085

On my 1085 the three point will not lift with weight 0n it. Anyone else have this problem? I have been told that I may need to install a new control spring. Will this fix it? Roy

Think I've done this one with you before, but here goes.
If you move the Position Control lever into "Constant Pumping", and set the Draft lever fully rearwards in the "up" position, does the engine labour slightly and can you hear a hissing noise from the centre housing?
If so, this indicates that the hydraulic pump is developing pressure, with minimal leakage points and therefore the problem may lie with either draft adjustment or a control spring problem.
If you are not developing any pressure, you have one of a number of problems, possibilities are - blown stand-pipe "o" rings, cylinder to cover "o" ring blown, blown neoprene piston seal and/or scored bore, faulty pressure control valve assembly, worn pump, etc, etc.
Diagnosing the hydraulic system for a low pressure problem is easier with a pressure gauge fitted to the top cover.
These old dinosaurs will need the fuel tanks removed to make access to the RHS round sidecover easier. Once the cover is removed, you can get a look at the underside of the lift(hitch) cover, and check for leaks mentioned previously. It will also enable you to work the control valve lever"manually", and further diagnose your problem.
Hope this helps,
Evan.

Thanks Evan. Yes you have advised me in the past. I put the tractor in a local shop and he could'nt fix it. He didn't put any gauges on it. He just said he couldn't work on it. I gave him the instructions that you gave me. Roy
