Hi
I am working on a Ferguson 40
The steering wheel moves up and down about a inch when I turn it
What is wrong how do I fix it?
How much do I need to take apart?
Thank you for your help

I hope this helps? The 'box is from an MF 65 but should be similar.

I have nearly the same problem with my F40, not so much up and down, just extremely hard to steer.
I thought it was a normal condition, but having recently purchased an MHF50, that turns with your fingertips as if it had power steering- all our problems must be in Sam's picture... looks like a weekend or 3's worth of work in there eh?

Tony, I would check the easy thing first....try new bearings in the kingpins/spindles and even try jacking the front wheels off the ground and greasing those spindles first. Very often stiff steering is caused by the grease in these spindle tubes taking the easy route and coming out the top and the bottom bearing is as dry as a duck on a barn loft.
