Massey Ferguson 245 lift

I just recently bought a nice little Massey Ferguson 245 with low hours and nice original paint. Everything works great, but when you raise the lift with an implement attached, there is a knocking noise coming from near the bellhousing. If you raise the lift with no implement attached there is no noise. I"ve owned several small Massey Fergusons but have never encountered a problem like this.
Any suggestions as to the cure of this problem would be appreciated.

it could just need adjustment internally. is it choppy when lifting

Don't lift it quite so high, it might be going into constant pumping. Can probably be adjusted but from reading on here doesn't hurt anything.

raise the lift all the way up,then move the lever pass the stop slowly until you here the relief valve start to squeal then lower the lever just until stops squealing then continue to move the lever until the rock shaft arms lower about 1/4" were they meet the lift cover,check the lever stop to see if it's contacting the lever if not loosen the screws and slide it to the lever retighten the screws ,if it still has a slight knocking sound it is nothing to worry about

Lift raises perfectly but is slow when lowered, even with an implement attached. There is no lag or jerk when raised.
I"ve tried not raising it all the way up to see if the noise stops. Even at only half way up it still knocks but only if an implement is attached to the lift.

If I have it right, 245 is a newer version of a 135. There should be a dipsick at your right heel, sitting on the tractor, in a round cover. Also will be a sliding lever, forward aft, to control lift response rate. One direction or the other will increase the speed of lift drop, for varying it according to implement weight, etc. The knocking is probably worn pins that hold the pump in place in the housing. This allows the pump to "rock" a tiny bit against these locating pins when it's engaged. The sound is prominent when the lift needs to hold a load. Been told it's common in these as they age. Our MF 30 has been doing it for as long as we've had it, 3years. Not sure if it's the pins or the sockets in the pump that would need replacing to cure it. Your dowels for holding the pump in place could be broken, thus letting the pump rattle againt the tranny housing. simply drain the oil and remove the dowels to check. if not then it could be as others have suggested. Try moving the control quadrant (beside your right heel) to fast response for faster dropping of the lift.
