TO20 and PTO shaft adapter for hog

I have a TO20. I bought it with a brush hog on
it. I replaced the PTO shaft seal about 6mths
ago. The existing PTO shaft has a small adapter
that goes onto the end of the tractor PTO shaft
and where the bush hot connects. Anyway, when I
put it back together bush hog stayed connected to
the adapter, when I went to slide the adapter back
onto the PTO shaft, it didn't want to go on. I
took a file to the rough burrs, still wouldn't go
on - even while I was pressing the little spring
in.
Anyway, I ended up driving it on with a hammer.
Do you think I can pull it all apart and just
replace the adapter? Is there a trick that I
don't know about

trying to make sense out of what your asking: so the adapter is 1 3/8 not the standard size of 1 1/8 and you can't pull it out of the shaft for the brush hog You can replace the adapter it bolts through the hole on the pto it's not gonna be easy getting that out That spring is to release the adapter

are you talking about the splined bushing about 21/2 inches long that increases the shaft size? and is held on with a role pin ? if so tractor supply should have them or Fleet Farm and Farm and Fleet has them

Ok, so the adapter has spring, that release it from the bush hog female 1 3/8 PTO connection.
Once i get the bush hog off the adapter, I can drive out the pin in the adapter and it should pull off the back of the 1 1/8 PTO shaft coming out of the back of the tractor.
TSC or farm and fleet would have a new adapter.

Thanks!
