I purchased my 3165i about 4 years ago. Never knew much about tractors untill after having this one. Problem is there is very limited information about this particular model that I can find online. Mine is equipt with an origional loader, and 3 pointhitch, and PTO. But I would love if someone could show me where I can learn more on the history of this cool machine. My big question is how many were produced, and why its so hard to find parts let alone another similar 3165i. I did have to change out to an alternator and 12 volt truck battery, and got lucky and was able to rebuild the starter using a 70s gm starter. Thanks in advance for any info.

I've heard of an MF 3165 but not a 3165i? A 3165 is an industrial 165 built in the late 60's to early 70's. It would be 12 volt and was replaced by the MF30 in 1973, I think.

OK, my 3165 was a 1973 New York State Thruway mower. They never used the independent PTO or the 3 point, so they are all gummed up. I 'think' the engines, either gas or diesel, are all Perkins, and I believe so was the rest of the tractor. I have Conventry spires on my castings, and others I have seen. It is just an industrial version of MF165, and any manual with that model in it, will cover yours.

Mine was owned by a school. Everything works since I rebuilt the electrical. Any sudjestions where I can find some missing parts? Ex: front grill, and logo, and the 2 air filter covers that appear to have has the 3165i written on them from the replacement manual I have bought? Also still interested to know how many weee made, I will be looking us thevin as a friend of mine sent me a site with the info that will tell me what year it was built. Although apparently still can't find where these were built either.

Hi Questtut, The 3165 was built from '65 thru '69
and used the 4 cyl Cont. gas eng and the Perkins
diesel. In '70 the 30 rpl with a Perk gas and
diesel. The following loaders were avail depend.
on yr and how ordered. MF32/34/99/100/200/ most
earlier ones had the 200 loader.Have o/m and part
book reas. if needed. Chuck

OK, why are parts hard to find? Cat now owns Perkins. They don't let anyone else produce spare parts. If they don't want mine or your engine to run anymore, they can arrange that.
Mine is a '73 212 gasoline, a 'U' in the serial number sez United Kingdom manufactor, one of the last I bet, and many parts interchange with the diesel versions.
I found nearly everything it needed in Fawcett's tractor parts, St.Mary's Ontario. Good prices and fast shipping.
Your starter, electrical should be off the shelf delco remi- or I would have thought?
Yeah, drop the 3, just search for MF165... and what engine is yours????

Tony, your tractor is an MF30 if it's a 73. The 3165 used a Continental gas engine and wasn't made in 73 as per Chuck41.

Yes, mine has the 4 cylander gas engion. Also the loader is labeled 200. When I get home this weekend I will post some pics and the vin. Then maybe some of you can help me better identify this tractor and learn a bit more about it.

Here are the numbers... written on the side of the block is 894 682-MI, on the transition case is 897556M1, and on the loader plate 200 10447

Apparently the numbers I find on the tractor are casting numbers. Where do I look to find the vin number on this model, note, I already located the loaders vin.
