Eric, The PTO stops when the clutch is fully depressed. It is certainly possible that there is something wrong with the clutch since you tell me that nothing in the transmission is turning when the clutch pedal is fully depressed. I am going to re-fill the transmission and really pay attention to the effect of the clutch on the noise. Thanks very much for the reply! Eric - I am in NW Illinois near Moline. Where in Illinois do you live?

I live near Litchfield.
I have given more thought to my first post. Since your clutch is functioning properly, the knock would not be coming from a loose friction pad because that noise would stop when the clutch is disengaged.
But since other components of the clutch would still be spinning, your noise could still be clutch related.
