MF 304 workbull instant reverse leak / pump?

I have a back hoe built around an MF304 workbull with the instant reverse transmission. It works well but has a solid stream of oil coming out the bottom whenever it"s running. I"m pretty sure the seal around the back of the torque converter must be shot and was doing some reading earlier in the week and the manual indicates that this leak can happen if the (non serviceable) babbit bearing in the front of the pump gets damaged. I bought the machine with a "recently rebuilt" engine and I"m wondering if the pump was damaged during engine installation. The local dealers want ~$750 for a pump but I see them online in a couple of places for closer to ~$300. Are the cheaper pumps OK or just cheap? Any other advice before I split it to fix? I don"t know anything about your leak but a dealer will double there money when ever they can.

I don't know for sure where your leak is coming from, but a couple years ago I had my 205 with the instant reverse split and while it was apart I replaced the seal in the front of the instant reverse case. That could be the source of your leak. Does the oil level go down? If you remove the cover under the bell housing you should be able to find out where the oil is coming from.

That's the seal I think is gone, the book seems to indicate that usually the seal goes due to the bearing in the pump being damaged. I just want to have my bases covered before I split it. I also can't really remove the cover from the bell housing as it is the cross brace for the front end loader. Thanks, Sam
