MF 50 Good News and otherwise

Was discing the back field last weekend with the MF 50 and the tractor started lurching. Engine was pulling smoothly. Turns out the Multipower was shifting on it own. Pushed it down to low and it stayed put. Finished discing and came back to shed changing the lever. It shifts from high to low and back again. Guess I just needed to work the machine a bit to get the kinks out. Just like me.
I am still trying to equalize the turning left and right. Turns sharp to the left and shallow to the right. PItman arm is alligned on sterring box shaft. Drag link is solid, no adjustment. I found one tierod end is bad, but cannot get the rod out of the tube. Any other areas to check. I wondering about the lower arm on the power steering link was removed and reset off center to provide more stroke on the left side. This one has me baffled mre than usual. Thanks, Jim.

Hi Jim, As to the multi-power try re-adjusting the linkage. Follow the linkage down to the top
of the transmission, loosen the tiny clamp and
make sure it is free from the pin. With the dash
lever completely up, push down on the little pin
while holding up on the clamp-then re-tighten the
clamp. Hoping good to go. Chuck

Chuck, Thanks for the reply. I will readjust the linkage as described. Any ideas on the turning problem?
I pulled the front axles out to gain clearance. Front wheel bearings are worn out so will replace
Those. Thanks, Jim.

Hi
On a 165 i had, I assume yours might be similar. The splines stripped in the yoke that goes on to the shaft that drops down through to the steering arm, under the front casting.
The pinch bolts will appear tight but the force on the wheels moves it a little with worn or a loose top / bottom arm.
This gave me more turn one way than the other.
The shaft and top and bottom arms have splines and Masters in from memory.
It should not be possible to put them together out of sinc if yours is the same.
At the time I could not afford the work needed to repair all my components. In the end I centered all the steering in the front casting, then welded the top to the shaft.
It could be the bottom one maybe too, you will have to take it apart to check these if this is the same system.
I don't recommend this welding fix, if that's the problem, but have seen a few like it in sales in the past.
Hope this might help
Regards Robert

Robert, Thanks for the info. I will remove all the arms and check the spline situation. In moving the steering back and forth, I cannot see any movement on the shafts, but that is with the front end up and no load on the front axle. Thanks again for the help, Jim.
