230 Instructions

Does anybody have a owners manual for a MF230 that shows the pto operating instructions? I'm trying to figure out why the pto lever will go both forward and backwards. I'm going to split tractor to adjust the clutch and would like to know why this is. Is it suppose to do that? I've only been around fords so I'm not sure. If someone has the manual could you please post that part? Thanks.

The forward position is 'ground drive'... should be cast into the cover, with 'neutral and engine'.
This was to power 3 point rakes like the one Jason posted on the other forum.
I want to make a trailer out of a jeep frame and axle powered by this pto source. I was told it won't work good, but if stuck on a stump in the woods... better than nothin' eh????

You ought to get a manual. I think the rearward position engages the PTO, and drives it proportional to engine speed. However the forward position engages the PTO and drives it in proportion to ground speed, and if I remember correctly the concern is that if you then shift into reverse, with something rotating on the rear of the tractor, you destroy something in the transmission. Clever, eh??

you can adjust the 2 stage clutch without splitting the tractor, main adjusts at throw out fork shaft clamp, pto is adjusted through the access cover under the bell housing by setting the gap between the 3-5/16" bolts that lift the pto pressure plate, adjust them to .080" between each bolt and the plate, back on shift lever is engine driven an controlled by pto clutch, forward is transmission driven controlled by trans.clutch
