MF 202 Shifting Rail / Fork

The reverse/first shift fork broke on my 202. Does anyone know if I need to split the tractor in half in front of the seat or can the plate below the seat be removed to pull the shifting rail out to replace the fork?

I agree, you would have to take the steering box off to get at the top of the transmission. The cover under the seat won't get you there.

The process for replacing a broken shift fork is as follows:

1) Split tractor between the rear differential and the transmission.
2) Remove the steering column
3) Inside the transmission loosen the nut that holds the shifting fork to the shift fork.
4) At the back of the trans remove the nut that holds the shift fork rail.
5) Slide the shift fork rail back.
6) Install new shift for and put slide back in.

I just broke the same shift fork in my MF-135. Same transmission. I didn't feel like doing the work, so I took it to the dealer. They split the tractor in 3 pieces and DID NOT remove the steering column. I was astounded, as that was the part I was dreading the most. Unbolt the column and the bell housing, and move the front forward and up. If I'd have known that trick, I'd have done it myself. By the way - the fork breaks because the low/reverse gear is a monster; its inertia overloads the fork when you shift quickly.
