well we have finnaly figured out what was wrong with the 44. it had a slipped rod bearing 3 from the drivers seat. we got it pulled off but it chewed up the crank a little. Im not sure if im gonna try to buy a new crank, get the old machined, or just put a new bearing in there and see how long it lasts.
i have a couple questions now though what is the ft/lbs torque needed for the head bolts and also for the rod bearing caps?
where is best place to get some push rods and also a set of rod bearings?
also has anyone ever had luck re-using head gasket we got it off purty good no big cracks or anything it has a small tear around one of the outer head bolts but not bad at all.
thanks to everyone that replied and helped me work through my problems just glad i finnaly found the culprit now just ahve to start re-assembling |

| you definitly need to get the crank ground, or find a replacement. just putting a brg. in it you will end up with the same problem after 5 min. of running. if machine shop doing the regrind they will look after the brgs also. i did have luck using old head gaskets on some units i just wanted to get running first to see how the rest of tractor was first. i use permatex high tack spray on them. it is oil and gas resistant and seals good and never hardens.not saying to reuse it but it can be done when a person is in a bind. cant seem to find the torque spec's now. |

| Nevermind, it is one casting, brain fart. What do you have for length from front to transmission on special? I can measure my RC and post. |

| | I will answer what I can right now. There are no new cranks available, fix up what you have. I would buy new rod bolts, they are available through ARP. I got my bearings off Ebay. Felpro makes a nice headset, do not reuse the old gasket. |
