F40 pin in transmission housing

The pin located at the bottom in the transmission housing is loose and leaking hydraulic fluid.

What is a good way to seal this pin so it does not leak.

I am changing the transmission fluid this weekend and want to stop the leak.

Any advice would be appreciated.

I bet you are talking about the lower link pins, vibrate loose etc. Actually a nut inside the trumpet is what comes loose, well, after 55 years....
Go to the Harry ferguson forum, someone was just asking about that last week, I posted pics of the two I did lately. Like I told that guy, 3 day job for a 3 dollar part...

i circled the pin.

You don't want to stop that pin from leaking or you will eventually soak your clutch in oil. To stop the real source of the leak you will need to split the tractor and replace either the transmission input shaft seals and/or the engines rear crank seal whichever is leaking. If its only a very slow leak you could just live with it for quite a while.

It is not a big job to split it and fix the engine and or transmission oil seals if the leak is bad enough.

If the leak has been bad, it would be a good idea to replace the clutch while you are in there.

I replaced the clutch and seals on a 35 in about 5 hours work.

That's cause you're in Oz. A z134 rear seal has screws that can only be removed from INSIDE the oil pan.., and IIRC, the upper AND lower shafts in the tranny have to be slipped out of position to get the seals and bearings out , which means the steering housing has to come up out of the way.... only guys I know who pulled that off lately is 2 tractors and Dan S?.... if you can do all this in 5 or 6 hours each... did you see my post on tearing into the 23c again? You can mend those too I presume? hummmm... arrange a 'tour'? .. with a camper full of tools? ... travel the continent, one fergie after another all summer, reasonable rates, so we can cover your ticket... I'm calling Quantas... you need another holiday in the states... my shout....

i have done a 65 and f40 before, its not hard but is technical. you need some good quality tools for the job also. if you have help and all the parts it can be done in a day. you really need to get a parts book so you can order the parts you need, i will try to list the picture. another problem is it can be your rear main seal leaking on the engine and not the input shaft seals. if you remove lower inspection cover you should be able to see the input shaft retainer housing, there is a weap hole on the bottom for oil to come out if your seals are leaking. they do that so oil doesnt drip on clutch. you cant find an f40 on agcopartsbooks.com but you could look up a mf/mh 50, everything is the same as the f40.email me if you have more questions
you will need #33,38,41,43,46. if it is the seals leaking

After a closer examination I discovered that the leak is not transmission fluid but motor oil.

Luckily I believe this leak can be slowed by tightening a few bolts rather than splitting the tractor.

I really appreciate all of your advice and input

Eric
