MF 50 Multi Power

1964 MF50 diesel. Multi power doesnt work. Owners manual doesnt go into troubleshooting this unit. What is involved with R and R on this assembly? Thanks, Jim.

Hi Jim, There could be problems but try this first. Follow the MP linkage down to top of trans
case. There is a tiny shaft coming up out of the
housing and a clamp surrounds it. Loosen that
clamp, make sure free of the little pin-push down
on the pin and up on the clamp as much as it will
go, then retighten. Be sure the multi power shift
lever is all the way up. Works a good percentage
of the time. Chuck

As Chuck mentioned, check control rod for full up-down travel first. If linkage is disconnected you should feel the belcrank lever move the spool valve. Have seen the shoulder pivot bolt break before too. If all is well, lift cover can be removed to check MP pump, may have driveline failure. Last is MP clutch pack, if that needs work 2 splits are needed to remove transmission assembly, as top shaft must be removed, then input shaft is removed from rear to free up clutch pack through top with shift rails out also.

Thanks for the replies. I followed the linkage to the trans top cover. The tiny rod goes down into housing thru a rubber boot which is realy tore up.
Is the clamp under this boot? While moving the lever up and down, I dont feel any resistance, like it is moving a valve. How can I see whats happening below the boot? Cover to remove? Thanks, Jim.

You might remove the 4 bolt cover below the clutch and see if the bellcrank moves OK, need a helper to move rod while using a light and mirror to watch the linkage. Had a 65D that lost MP, pivot bolt was broken on that one, had to split to replace the bolt. Rod should move about 3/4 inch total travel, spool will limit rod travel if working OK. If pivot bolt is broken inside it will move more, and may fall inside if control linkage is removed from the rod.

Hi Jim, The clamp should be above the boot. I
wonder if because unit is not working, parts have
been removed. If you could find the parts if would still be worth trying.Chuck
