My MF 1085 Sometimes jumps out of second gear (when in High range) Can anyone tell me if this is easily fixed?

Hi
I Had an 1135 with the same shifters as this and that used to jump out or try and put 2 gears together or not return to neutral the odd time. it could be that the pin holes in the linkages are worn and the lever hits the stop before it's properly in gear.
I had to mess with the adjustments on the linkages until I hit the sweet spot, it really needed the linkages re built but I didn't have the time to do it and it got sold on shortly after.
It only takes a few thou of an " wear to give a problem over the distance of the linkages. If that is your problem I've seen guys file the slot so the lever moves further to as a temporary fix .
Regards Robert

Hi
I'm in Manitoba Canada.
Yes these forums are great and very useful. I fix tractors for a living and come on to pass around stuff I have seen over the years, Also if something comes in the shop I've never seen before, I'll come on the forums or you tube and see whats around for info and the trade tricks.
It can be amazing what you can learn! saved $300 on ford f250 super duty power door locks the other day. I found a repair it your self video so i didn't have to buy new that in 6 months would have failed like mine :).
Good luck with the 1085 I hope it's nothing more than a simple fix.
Regards Robert

Hi Len
Does your 1085 have the shifters mounted near the steering wheel? and the shifter is in up position when it slips out?
If it does it is like our 1100 Massey.
We had this problem...found out a mouse had built a nest under the linkages below the shifter.
Open the small panel on the floor in front of the steering column, you may have an accelerator pedal down there too.
check under the linkages for any dirt and gunk that will not allow the shifter to go completely into gear.
If this is not it you may have worn shifter forks or detents.
Wayne

Now I can give you guys some info. My MF1085 clutch was slipping under load and the adjustment did not seem to be working. Turned out that the linkage attached to the shaft coming out of the cluth housing, which has a knob on the lever was touching hard up against the bell housing and not letting the cluth to fully engage. An agle grinder did the trick!!
Cheers
