MF 231 steering problems

My 231 has about 1/3 of a round of slack in the steering wheel, its so much you wouldnt want to run it down the road in 4th gear high range, you would wind up in the ditch. Its power steering but turns like a tractor with out power steering even when moving.

Randy,Have you checked the power steering pump fluid level?

Yes fluid level is ok.

Randy,what country was your 231 built in ? that info can be found on the serial # tag. Joe

Well ,next take off the battery cover and look at the steering valve and make sure the pin didn't fall out,next ,with engine shut off,steer the wheel and see if that valve is moving up and down,next,start the engine and have someone steer the wheel all the way to the left or right and hold tension on the wheel and you grab ahold of the steering cylinders and feel the temperature of the cylinders,after a few minutes if one of the cylinders feels warmer,that is the one leaking past the seal inside and will have to be rebuilt.
