Engine overhaul kits

I dont know if I'm the only one , But I wish the manufactures would include an assemble instructions sheet , or at least some sort of diagram .I am not a mechcanic or engine builder but do like fix things.I think this would take some of the stress out . The manuals don't always give clear directions. I had some questions and tried to call the manufacturer, they don't take calls, I called YT they had no answers but did direct me to forum which has been great.

That's so's yous can spend more money for DVD's or full color (with a U) softbound illistrated books on the subject. Really, a 'sheet' in a kit would wallpaper a house... so it'll never happen.
Including a DVD in the kit? or an option for one is a good idea. I just about wore out the dvd on rebuilting a 23c diesel....

Rings has instruction on paper that around the rings. Your rods with #'s goes to the side of cam. Caps will only fix one way.Numbers start at front engine. Keep rods and caps together(same #'s)Look at inserts and place it so hole will line up.Fits only one way.Always look at everything when you take apart.I've seen people take pictures.

Yes that all make sense but what if there are a few differnt marks on a pistons, which marks do you use if their isn't a arrow like the feguson one, or if you look for how orient timing gear to crankshaft gear not in my massey manual. Should you hone new cylinder sleves,Piston fitting !!!!

they presume your qualified for the job, as a mechanic knows all this stuff. do you want a greenhorn doing a complete brake job on your vehicle? thats why there is trades people. can take classes, apprentice with a mechanic, read books or what ever is out there, biggest thing though should be mechanically minded.

STAYING ON TOPIC!!!!!!......all I'm saying is that it would cost them next to nothing to include the info (esp. since three "owners manuals I purchased were so vague in some areas). They include a sheets for carb kits, alternator rebuilds even lawn mower engine rebuilds!!

No - I am not a mechanic...but it's MY tractor , and yes I am mechanically inclined so if I want to tinker with it to get it operational (which it was not when I purchased it) is completely up to me !! I want to keep a peace of history alive !!!

I know just what you are saying Matt. Do you know the 'I&T' manuals? the ones with the red and cream covers? Alot of people curse then, but all I ever needed to know is in them.
I have beening buying them since I started farming, one can cover several models.
When working on your own stuff, on a budget- or no budget, you have to do as much as you can at home however possible, or go out of business. My trick was to get who ever knew how to tackle the job to help, treat him like a prince, watch, study, learn, remember...repeat as needed! The last few years I tackle EVERYTHING myself, as much as possible anyway.
My lathe is too small to turn the 202's crankshaft, so I bring it to a $100 an hour'professional'... megabucks later- it came out fine. The other day I brought him the head to press out the valve stem guides... he wanted all the valve parts there even though he wasn't going to install them.... HE loses the bag with the tiny valve stem pins.... HE wants to charge ME ten bucks to replace them.... ha I say!
Well, wasn't exactly "ha".... So I had to order more stuff from YT here anyway, so for $1.43, replacements are on their way. I don't need to be ripped of by 'professionals' who are already charging me by the minute. Hey, there are lots of rebuilds to watch on you tube... that's my new hobby... you tube...
BTW, TSC is 'tractor supply corp'.. you don't have those in Canada yet, not the best, not the cheapest, but if you are close to one, and you are in a pinch....

Sometimes those of us that claim to know what we are
doing get stumped. I work for a deere dealer and
have access to all the factory tech manuals. A
while back I was working on a computer problem,
following the diagnostic routine, when I get the
message "undefined problem see your dealer"????
What the bleep am I supposed to do now?

Tony in Mass, I agree with you Tony , I have I&T manuals for JD MH IHC and Oliver tractors. If you are mechanicaly minded they are a great help. ---------Harold
