Yes like a perkins or Std, rods and cap numbers are toward the camshaft, which is where a lift pump would be on a diesel I suppose.
Matt P - the (fellow teaching the bloodhound to drive?) did the same with his on a 202 rebuild just lately, Matt must have recieved exactly the same overhaul kit- he went by the dots someone dabbed on the inside of the piston just like I did... I think as soon as I get back at it, I'll put all the 'professional' etched marks on the cam side, even if it seems to make no mechanical difference. This just gives me a creepy feeling set up like this, easy piston retainers, so no great waste of time to ease my mind...
As I type this... seems a good question would be- does a z134 have offset wristpins, or everything centered and this positioning makes no difference? I vote for centered... but this still looks strange...
