in line filters, NG...

well ive been chasing my tail on my MF50 with fuel and carb problem for a few weeks now and finally decided to remove an in line filter which was replaced and run my 50 without it. Well guess what, it runs like a top now and i proceeded to hurl that filter in my burn barrel. those damn things are just not meant to be....

I had decent luck with a Farmall 300 with an inline filter, but you are right, they just don't work worth squat being gravity feed.

why don't inline filters work , is it reduced fuel flow !! is there a type that we would wih these older tractors or just stick with screens in the tank and carb inlet

i have some from many years ago when we sold snowmobiles that had a fine screen in the filter and they work but the paper type will not if the bottom of the tank is not higher then the carb by a foot or more. i have them paper type on some massey 44s and IHC M&Hs and they work fine but one on my to-20 works till tank gets down to about 1/2 and it will stop

Had one on my 202 when I got it, nothing but trouble with it. Took it off and got a new sediment bowl and haven't looked back! I think they're fine for something with a fuel pump but not great for gravity feed.

i beleive they reduce fuel flow because they are designed to have fuel pushed thru them at 6 or 8 psi and gravity feed just doesnt create that kind of pressure..

I have used inline filters on my TO30 for over 10 years with no trouble. I used a G1 Fram and lawn mower filters and never had any issues. If your filter is too restricted then you can have that sort of a problem. I just never had.

i would consider another less restrictive filter, might try one of the ones you mentioned because i do like the extra protection.

Some in line filters are for fuel pumps only they need pressure that my be the flow restricting problem

If you install an inline filter in a gravity flow fuel system, you MUST use a filter designed for a gravity flow system.
