BUT... inside the pistons are different colored magic marker dots, I 'assumed' these were someone's idea of an arrow.... but as the pistons went in the sleeves... you see my question... make a difference anymore? If so- who's right? guy who stamped top, or guy who marked the inside??? [Reply]   [No Email]

It is normal to fit the rods and caps with the numbers towards the main fuel pump. This may be the case but can't see it in your photo. If the numbers are not towards the pump seek advice from a workshop manual for confirmation. As long as the bowls are concentric and there are no 'front' marks on the pistons they will fit either way. DavidP, South Wales [Reply]  [No Email]

Yes like a perkins or Std, rods and cap numbers are toward the camshaft, which is where a lift pump would be on a diesel I suppose. Matt P - the (fellow teaching the bloodhound to drive?) did the same with his on a 202 rebuild just lately, Matt must have recieved exactly the same overhaul kit- he went by the dots someone dabbed on the inside of the piston just like I did... I think as soon as I get back at it, I'll put all the 'professional' etched marks on the cam side, even if it seems to make no mechanical difference. This just gives me a creepy feeling set up like this, easy piston retainers, so no great waste of time to ease my mind... As I type this... seems a good question would be- does a z134 have offset wristpins, or everything centered and this positioning makes no difference? If they have offset pins, they go so the offset is to the left side - sitting in drivers seat. [Reply]  [No Email]

I didn't torque any yet, and the wrist pins were as hard as others I have done, so a half hour? Tomorrow I can have them all in a row, toward the cam... just for luck? When you talk about them being hard, do you mean they were difficult to press in? If so then put the pisons in a bucket of boiling water and the pins will slide in.
