I would think the tractormeter would be as good as it gets as far as being accurate.
I've never really had much trouble getting them to idle, maybe I've just been lucky. Getting the carb cleaned/rebuilt is definitely a good place to start.
Sounds like you're doing very well for being a first timer. You must have good mechanical aptitude. My 202 was my first tractor, I bought it in running condition but needing a lot of TLC. That was about 3 years ago. The 202 has done a lot of work for me, it has a front end loader and a backhoe, it's been invaluable. This past summer/fall I picked up a TO-35 which was also running and had a front end loader and 3 pt. hitch which worked. I removed the loader because it had not business being on a tractor without power steering and I am currently freshening it up. I was hoping it would be my snow plowing machine this winter but I ran out of time to finish it before the snow came. Now that the due date is past I have decided to go a little/lot further with repairs.
It's a fun hobby, the tractors do earn their keep and it keeps me out of trouble!

Hey Inno where did you get your carb kit from.I had one brought in by napa part# 2-1404 which is a echeline carb kit. I talked to two differn't stores they gave me same #. When I got the kit it was wrong it looked like it was for carb twice as big as my tsx 683 thanks also it did'nt have the throttle shaft in kit.

Oreillys number for the carb kit is 778-505A, see if napa can cross that number.
