MF 202 Govenor Linkage

Need help with the tractor and could really use a scale picture of compensating spring and compensating spring linkage. As these parts were missing when we bought the tractor and cant get any from wrecking yard in canada and we would like to fabricate them or if anyone has a spare one make a deal for it.
Also how much oil should we be getting to the valve train of a contintental z-134 engine?

I have a theory why I don't remember seeing one before... I will wait for someone else to see this pic. Nice tractor!
 
John UK was able to send me a scale drawing. Look him up on the Harry Ferguson forum.
My 202 is currently without one. I did fit a spring all the way from the throttle shaft to the hole on the thermostat housing. The governor does seem to work properly so I'm not really sure what it's exact purpose is. John UK has said that the governor will not work at all without it but mine seemed to work even without it before I had realized that I needed it. Ignorance is bliss I guess.
Tony, what's your theory?
 
My theory Inno? The previous owner got a drill press from Santa Claus. Awhile ago from the looks of it. Part 2 of theory? Rather than buy the proper spring, or hunt down something atleast close to original, he made this plate to potentially use each and ever spring in his tin can of springs... if the need arises...
I will go out and shovel snow off the tarps and hope the flash and focus work under there, now that my chest cold is breaking up, I might as well go out and get a relapse for you fellow wrench warriors...That's why I couldn't figure out what Matt was talking about, I have 7 continentals, and don't remember seeing nothing like that before...
but it does look like a cool drill press project for a long winter's night... for those of us with a heated garage of course...

We think so.

I guess that one is a "universal" linkage. My question is, how critical is this thing ? If none of your tractors seem to have one and my 202 came without, how necessary is it really? The 35 has one and.......ya know what Tony, don't risk a lung infection, I'll take a picture of mine which is still apart.......heck, I might even take it off the tractor and get some measurements or lay it on a piece of graphing paper or something similar. You get better Tony and leave the hard work to me.
 
Agh what's a little fatal lung infection between friends?
I am from a long line of frost bite canuks... first one showed up in 1609, and we been dying of lung infections ever since....
When Matt showed us that perferated thing, I then knew he was talking about the 'J hook' I call em. I was thinking more about the thermostat housing...
That 'J' is only still hooked up on the TO30 with a loader, and the dead MF 50, so I actually never noticed either before now. I saw how it would/could 'dampen' the thobbing effect of the other linkage and spring, that wound up screen door spring on the rebuilt TO30 was...my idea, because, like John said, it evened out the torque?fast idle? when I was re-adjusting everything when she got restarted and loosened up after the overhaul. So I am like the guy that owned Matt's- a spring hoarder and mis-user... sad but true...
The rest... well... nice pic of the rusty one just hanging is on the TO35, none on the 40, the one with the cab and snow plow has the just the spring just hanging there, and I think, as she stalls when pulling the angle lever when still cold, putting that spring back on might just help her keep going till warmed up.... @#$%^&* SNOW!!!
BTW, good ol Ontario made Cockshutt has a whole different governor affair on the F162, so no pics of that or the Perkinses....

The 5th picture, that must be the same machine you took a picture of the other day when I was asking about the non draft upper link pin. I swear it spent some time under water.
I'm on my way out to the shop soon to get what he really needs, measurements etc. just as soon as the wife shows up and I can go to the garage without being a neglectful parent even though my daughter is sleeping.........or should be.
You are from a long line of Canuks? I would have bet money with a name like yours that if anyone pizzed you off you'd have send ya cuzzin Vito 'Short Knuckles' Mafioso to do some collateral damage to their kneecaps..........if'n ya get my drift.

thanks guys great pictures excellent graph. I built two tonight, just to have a spare I look foward to trying it out tomorrow. any thoughts on the oil to the top of head . do you know where I can get the proper compensater spring, or part #
 
181535M1 is the part number for the spring. Not sure if you can obtain it with the part number.....scratch that, it's available as a Sparex part, just google it. Or better yet, it is available on this site, $6.95.

As for how much oil to the top of the head, I'm not really sure. Enough to lubricate the valve train but not really sure just how much that is. Is the valve train dry or can you see oil dripping off the parts from front to rear?

Hey Tony, look, those missing springs are available!!! :lol: The part number for the "J hook" is 181533M1 but it doesn't look as though it's available. I'm going to make one for my 202, maybe I can muster up a few spares for ya.

Well it's nice to know you're on the road to tractor recovery, atleast me and Inno didn't nearly die on a snowbank for nothing...:(

wow you guys are quick, you have gotten back to me faster then I can finger peck. Tony I live outside a small town called Claresholm, we just bought it moved out of the big city Calgary ,quite an adjustment. This is the first tractor I,ve driven let alone had to rebuild . where are you in Mass. Inno are you close to north bay,I spent some time there in my youth. We are having a blizzard today might wait awhile to try out new linkage
 
Not even close to North Bay. It's roughly 1400km east of us. Ontario is a huge province. The best way do describe where we are is right in between Thunder Bay and Winnipeg on the US border with Minnesota.
It's funny when people from Toronto don't realize/care how big the province is. They think Manitoba starts at Sault St. Marie! :lol:
