mf 135 fuel filters

I got my 135 with only one fuel filter, see pic. Unless anyone can tell me differently I assume there should be 2, as per the manual. In fact, it all looks butchered (shouldn't there be a pipe from the top of the filter shown, banjoed onto that bolt? Where does it go?)

I'd be very grateful for any comments or advice ...

By the way, DavidP and others, thanks for the brake advice a few month back. All back together now, only a little epoxy needed...

I have lots of tractors with only one filter and no problems. Just keep it changed. If one filter won't catch it why would a second?

Good point, thanks, and it's reassuring to think that no great damage has probably been done. I'd still like to return the tractor to standard though, if 2 filters were standard ...

Hi,
Yes, of course there should be two filters. And yes, it will work on one, however you will not have a visible water trap. The first (missing) filter in line from the tank should have the glass bowl under it so that you check and drain it as required. In the UK the later 500 series tractors pair of filters were replaced with one larger capacity one with a drain tap in the lower cup.
No matter how careful you are you will always get a build-up of water over time. Filling the tank at the end of the day's work, not the beginning, will help to reduce water forming from condensation. It would be advisable to refit the missing filter asap. There should be secondhand ones available from breakers although new would be better in terms of possible aluminium thread damage through past pipe disconnections.

DavidP, you are a (reliable) star - thanks for the advice and drawing, which is going to be invaluable. My manual only has a schematic of the pipework and quite a lot has been removed, looks like I'm about to get some experience at pipe flaring! Much appreciated.

I think I've seen some 135's with only 1 filter or the first filter is on the same side as the sediment bowl.
