2705 Questions

Found a good looking(in pictures anyway)2705. 3900hrs, cold air, duals, and suit case weights for $10,500. Its a power shift, hi,dir, low, and reverse in a L pattern. If i drive it and it hits all the gears is everything good or could problems still be lurking? Its a pretty good drive to go look at it, so i figured I would ask the experts before I head out to look at it.

When you shift the power shift between low/int/high, it shouldn't bog engine down alot. A little change in the engine tone is normal, but it should be crisp and quick when you shift it. It's quite a job to rebuild those powershifts, but they work really nice in my mind

FWIW, I had a 2805 several years ago with the Power Shift 24 speed. Was told that when the trany starts going bad it won't work well in reverse. I would check that after it is fully warmed up. The 2805 had a Hydraulic Pressure Low light on the dash, would want to know if that bulb is working and not illuminated after it has warmed up. The price seems a tad high to me, around $8k maybe?

Hi
Some of those had a bad habit of cracking the side out of the pinion/ bearing support in the rear axle and messing things up good .
A local farmer had it do 2 different used rear axle castings plus the original that I saw in his shop when they re built it the final time before they dumped it. I think there might be an update on the newer ones though but don't know if or when it was.
Another guy I know has one he said his didn't do the casting but he's not looking forward to the day his power shift or tranny quits.
I think the only real problem he has had so far was a lack of hyd pressure and a blanking plug had fallen out in the system and it lost pressure somewhere.
Regards Robert
