165 - adding foot control

Hello all
I'm new to tractors and the YT site. It's good reading......

I purchased a1967 MF165 with a MF quick disconnect loader. I'm spending some time over the winter fixing and making some small modifications, like adding a foot control throttle.

I discovered that the existing hand throttle linkage was not in great shape and missing some springs. In the shop manual I noticed that the picture showing how to adjust the linkage has a spring (I assume a return spring) on the bottom of the linkage. Can someone tell me were the other end of the spring attaches to? I could also use a pic or drawing of how the foot throttle is integrated?

Any help would be appreciated, thanks

There was a foot throttle as standard on all our 100 series, You may be able to find one on a scrapped industrial in America.

Thanks for the reply. I have the pedal assembly and a linkage but I know where the pedal linkage is supposed to attach to the existing linkage. As my existing linkage had been repaired/modified by the previous owner I don't know what it's supposed to look like. To clarify, I need a pic or drawing of the RHS linkage.

Its a Perkins diesel if that makes a difference.

Eric,

No need to go to Ervin's. Got one on-line pretty cheap.
I'll probably stop by for a look over the weekend if your home. I thought your hand control was not working?

On another note. I took off the PTO selector cover to get at that brass filter as you suggested, but no chance. The aux hydraulic lines are in the way. Unless you have another idea.....

Sorry for taking so long to reply, but I have been down with 'flu and only made it over to the shop this afternoon to take these pics. I hope they help. Parts for these throttles are available from Sparex.

I have a 1970 industrial 20 (basically a 135) with a perkins gas engine, and my foot throttle linkeage looks somewhat different than samn40's photos show. I could try to take some pics if like, but everything is kinda buried behind the air cleaner and hard to see. Let me know if you want some pics.

Sam and Samuel thanks for the help. I don't think the linkage is the same on the 135 gas

Sam is yours a 165? The linkage looks close and makes mechanical sense to me but my cross linkage does not have that quadrant plate on the end. It also looks like the very bottom of your hand throttle shaft has a fitting on it. Mine does not have that but as I said, I think the PO made some changes. I'll check Sparex. That's for the tip.

Yes the tractor in the picture is one of the very first 165s to roll off
the Banner Lane assembly line and has the 203 engine. It is a well
used example that I have in dry storage to hopefully restore some
day....The serial number is 61....possibly built the very first day?

#61, nice resto project...I hope you get to do it.

Thanks again for all help. You have confirmed that my linkage is as best assembled wrong, at worse a Rube Goldberg. The question now is why and how to fix it.

I gave a quick look on Sparex but could not find the parts. I guess foot control goes on the bottom of the project list......
