Is this loader Massey or aftermarket?

This looks like the loader which came mounted on an Oliver 550 I just purchased. Was told it had come off of a Massey. Is there a model number, if it is Massey? Cylinder packings available?

In searching online, I see the name Davis quite a bit. was or is Davis at one time mfg. of loaders for MF? Model 100 or 200 maybe?

Yes, it is right for the tractor, I have 2 Davis loaders. Not the newest or strongest things out there, but they aren't expensive and with care and patience, can do any job the modern ones can. Others might know the model number and specs.... that's not one of my favorite pastimes. But yep, it's a Davis...

1. Will MF dealer have seals for lift cylinder?
2. Any idea of model number?
3. No sign of a filter, do they usually have one?
4. No dipstick attached to fill cap, reservoir is part of the main frame. Fill to almost full?
5. what is device indicated in photo (off of front drive pump)?

you never buy seals from the dealer they will rob you take on ram apart and go to a good hyd shop and they will fix you up or get on line and find Braun hyd. in Omaha NE.and they will help you

Looks like a "Y" with a plug in it to me. Find it hard to tell from the photo. If it's like a 200 with the reservoir in the upright of the mainframe where the control valve is, with the filler at the top of that pillar, don't fill it full. Halfway is probably plenty. Our MF32 loader which is a later and improved version has the full mark at about 18" down from the top of the pillar. Generally the Mf loaders have the filter attached or close to the reservoir or in the reservoir. Our MF34 has one in the reservoir and another exeternally mounted at the reservoir. They are pretty hard to miss. Perhaps yours doesn't have one, or maybe just has a screen at the suction line?

I obviously know little about hydraulics. Is this "Y" similar to a "cleanout" in plumbling? For bleeding air?

First off, we really want a few pictures of YOUR loader... not one on ebay. Is your loader still on an Oliver? Cause... they might have used that 'wye' to power something else. It would be a nice spot to drain the sysyem without breaking a joint, and yes there should be a filter, basic thing, a screen in a can affair. I will try to remember to take a few pics of mine today. Does this one work OK?

this is my loader on the Oliver. It pauses on being raised, like it has to "recover" then raises again, pauses, raises. Looks to be way low in the reservois. I added one gallon, looks like it could hold another. I had posed a lot of questions, but the main question was model, at this point I am wondering if it is a 100 ??

While it looks similar to the early MF series loaders I don't think it is. Even the early MF/Davis 99 loader on the online parts books has the distinctive style of the latter ones. They all have a much heavier frame and lift arms by the look of it. Perhaps there is a strainer in that fitting if it is the suction/intake side. Sure looks like it's a plain cap not meant for pressure, similar to a plumbing cleanout. Only way to find out is to take it off and look. You might find a metal screen/sleeve in there. Symptoms are similar to low oil level or, clogged filter/strainer. Are the cylinders double acting --- pressure down as well as lift? If not, then it will require a higher oil level than a double acting system. After you added oil, did it go higher before starting to shudder? If so maybe it's just low and I would add a bit more in increments until it goes all the way up without shuddering. However, after each top-off, I would let it all the way down to make sure there is room for more and it doesn't come spitting out the top. If there is a breather at the top, you may want to clean it first.

Your guess is as good as mine, I don't know if model numbers mean anything.
See the little bolt under the vent cap? I fill it up to that point, but latley this one doesn't work any better than yours. I have got to get into the relief valve, which seems to be on the bottom of the 4 way, maybe next week.

Looks just like the 3000 Freeman loader. Seals can be had from a hydraulic shop. could be 2000 or 3000 model. Probably not enough oil flow for a quick raise. Check for restictions or low fluid level. Our Freeman was a nice unit, and was plumbed to factory hydraulic on a MF 165

Saw you have MF 165 loader experience. Does the 165 handle the stress on the front end pieces or is breakage of spindles, tie rods, and misc, front supension an issue. I'm considering an orchard style w/ loader.
