Splitting MF1085

My PTO break is not engaging ie wont stop turning unless there is a load on it - spreader with gate closed etc. When you engage the PTO it turns on - no problem with the pump etc...

Its been a long time since I split this tractor because of the pump I believe...What is the procedure?
Drain and drop fuel tanks, drain hydrolic, (am i splitting behind the engine? - drain oil). Jack cab at rear, disconnect any wires, hoses... I recall some issues with disconecting and reconnecting the shifter linkage -advice?
Which end should I block in place the rear or front - to roll the other end apart?

Any other advice? Anything else I should be looking to fix while I'm in there.

I'm tired of always having the tiller , brushcutter or whatever turning. This tractor has been through a lot, but it still ears its keep...just want to make it safeer.

never pulled one a part with a cab, but I can split one in about 2 hours with a helper, you need to put blocks over the front axle to keep the tractor from pivoting side to side, put a block under the engine, once you have the tractor split, you take cn roll the rear end and trans housing by yourself. If the fluid is full of fibers you should go ahead and replace the disc in the clutch pack.

Hey Marv, thanks. I forgot about the front pivit.

So the clutch pack is what I am going to need to replace anyway, but the the disc only if there are fibers in the oil?

Anything else I should look for. I don"t think getting it a part will be too bad - I just recall something about the shifting linkage being a pain.

If I get a service manual will it run through the procedure? I noticed there were IT manuals and another brand online...which is better?

Thanks, Grant

If you were in the neighbor hood I would love to help - infact we could practice - I mean fix yours first! ;>)

I will let you know how it goes - probably start in Jan, depending on my helpers availability...Grant
