555 gas ?

found a 555 gas, already have a 555 diesel but never seen of a gas. how many were made? are they rarer than diesels?
this is a barn find it has not seen daylight since 1982, anything to be aware of when getting it running?

I'd bet the thermostat is stuck, gas is carmelized, carb needs cleaning, and then there's the mice.

I think like most tractors of that era, the gas engines outsold the diesels. Around here anyway. A neighbour had a 55 gas in the sixties. Another one showed up at the local vintage tractor pulls a few years back. You can watch it perform in my video at youtube. This one had huge "rice tires".

i have to disagree, in the 555 much like the JD R i believe the diesel was more common.

Not here. Diesel tractors didn't really take over til the sixties here. The extra cost of the diesel engine was a big factor. And there was not a big cost savings in fuel considering there was only a few cents a gallon difference in fuel price between gas and diesel. Starting in the winter was a factor too. Theres a lot more JD AR tractors than Rs around here. The 60 and 70 as well as the720 were usually found with gas engines under the hood.
