I finally had a chance to tear into the tractor (MF Super 90WR) as I found water in the oil. I was hoping it was just a head gasket BUT I’m not that lucky. It looks like it froze and has about a 4” bulge/crack and is trashed… So if anyone has or knows the whereabouts of a functional head for the Perkins A4-300. The valves and associated hardware seem to still be good, it’s just the head. Please email if you have any ideas to johnandtheresa2459 (at) gmail.com.

Thanks in advance for any help

Good Morning Dieseltech,

Tried to call last PM but had problems. Did you have a chance to weigh the head? Also, does it have the guides / seats still in it and any idea what kind of shape they are in?

BTW Head had a great question, is a 318 head different from a 300 or is it just in the stroke?

Thanks much

All: Have a wonderful Thanksgiving.

John

Weighed assebled head was about 82 lbs, need to remove end plate cover and all valves and springs, will reweigh it then, I think it can go UPS ground. A4.318 used different pistons to work with 5 inch stroke crank, rods are the same. Valves seat directly in head, no seat inserts are used. I have a 318 head too, I think it is the same as A4.300 need to check casting#. If you like try to call Sat after 3PM your time, will be home then. 5748934172.
Hang a charger on it, throw some fuel to it if you want to have some fun. My S-90 puller is a bit over 210 hp.

before you buy a head you better flood the block to make sure you don't have other leaks if it froze you might and will have other leaks pull the oil pan and wait for water to run out. when i flood a block i use fuel oil will leak out of the smallest cracks. GOOD LUCK

I will weigh one after work this evening, actually have 2 stripped heads, but one is from a burned MF 1085 engine I took the crank out of and used in a S-90 puller. If you want call me at 5748934172 after 9 PM your time, will know what it weighs. May go UPS, but not sure.

Is a 318 head (1085) the same as the 300 head?

What I mean by a head casting is a cylinder head with no valves. Came off a S-90 I parted out.

Where are you? Fawcett's in St Mary's Ontario I'm sure will have one, a few in the midwest might, but shipping will be sticker shock. I swear the head of my 212 weighed more than I do.
