I am trying to put a tachometer on my Minneapolis Moline GVI diesel and I have someone who has proposed I use a generator off of a MF 165 which does appear to be the same (i.e. same size, mounts the same, etc.). The Generator # is 1900341M91 and the tach drive they have proposed fits this generator and is 14 tooth drive and 43 tooth driven and apparently fits Massey 165 Tractors both the gas and diesel versions. They have also proposed I use a tachometer off of the MF 165. All this I believe will work fine but the one concern I have is the ratios of this drive. My tractor has a 2:1 ratio between the crankshaft and generator pulleys so I need either the generator drive or the tachometer to convert this ratio back so that I am reading the actual crankshaft speed. It appears that based on the gears in the tach drive that it is a 3:1 ratio instead of 2:1.
Are there other tach drive options that would work for my situation (i.e. 2:1)?
What are the pulley ratios on a MF 165?
Does the tachometer have a ratio built into it or is it just 1:1?
Any help/information would be appreciated. Thanks in advance for your help.
