Fuel gauge problem?

The fuel gauge on my 65 UK 135 has started acting funny. It's like it only works some of the time. It will read accurate (3/4) then all of sudden drop down to read a 1/4 tank then go back up. If I tap the gauge or rub it to clean dust off, the gauge will move, usually going down. Could this just be a dirty connection or do I maybe need a new gauge or sending unit?

First the temp. gauge sometimes sticks and won't go down when it cools off and now the fuel gauge is acting up. You'd think they could make something last for more than 47 years. LoL

Had a fuel gage act like that on my MF240. Replaced the fuel sending unit, inside the fuel tank, and it quit acting up, and it works only not as accurate. I"m not ssure I got a real MF sending unit, but it works.
