Massey 135 Voltage Regulator

I have a really dumb question, what's the best way to polarize the voltage regulator? I replaced it last year and don't remember polarizing it like I was supposed to.

I remember you jump the battery terminal to something for a few seconds. Also what should I use to jump the two posts?

Thanks,

Christos

Make sure you wired everything back from the generator to the voltage regulator correctly or your polarity will be off, increasing the voltage by 2x, and thus can burn out the ammeter, melt terminals/wires etc. You are actually repolarizing the generator.

Jumper between "B" Bat lug and "G" Gen Lug on the Generator for a few seconds or once you get a spark. Just use a heavy gauge coated jumper wire.

Actually you polarize the generator , not the regulator. Use a heavy coated wire #14 or larger. Briefly attach the wire to the Bat. Terminal of the regulator or direct to positive side of battery, to the 'A' terminal,or armature of the generator. No longer than two seconds. Some folks recommend tapping on the side of generator during this connection, suit yourself on that issue.
