Alternator vs. gen. MF65

Any MF 65 owners out there that have converted a 203 diesel over to Alt., if so which one did you use. I am thinking a one wire GM, if I cannot fix the gen. Thanks

I converted my MF85 to an alternator a few years ago. No more low powered generator headaches! I know a lot of fellas use the GM, I happen to have a MF branded one. Took around an hour or two for installation. Definitely wish I had done it sooner.

Gm 1 wire is the way to go. If you have a local alternator shop have them build you one with a low RPM cut in regulator, otherwise you may need to rev the engine up a little to get it to start charging.
Have put lots of them on and will never go back to a generator.

I would always use the GM unless diameter is an issue, then use the Hitachi. I do prefer the 3 wire alternators, but you have to mess around with a diode.

I used a Mitsubishi. Wires just like a GM 3-wire, but much smaller package. It is very similar to the diameter of the genny and bolts up easily but much shorter in length. I used two pieces of 3/8 thickwall stainless and a piece of 5/16th all thread to make my mount.
