MH 44 no oil pressure

I do not have oil pressure after a rebuild on MH44. There is some flow if I pull the line to the gauge but no pressure.

There is no gasket between pump and main cap. I am getting ideas before taking it apart.

David -

I see one of three possibilities here:

1. One of the galley plugs on either end of the block are leaking or missing. If the back plug was missing you would have oil ccoming out of the bellhousing. If the front plug were leaking it would run down the front of the engine.

2. Your pressure regulator on the pump needs some additional work. It may stuck in the relieving position and thus bleeding off pressure or you may need to shim the spring in the pump to create the desired pressure.

3. The pump is worn internally to the point where it cannot build a normal level of oil pressure.

Typically, the pump either works or doesn't work at startup with only internal priming before installation. I highly doubt that air is causing any of these issues (unless you have an air leak on the suction side of the pickup)...

Make sure the relief valve in the pump is not stuck wide open and that the pickup tube isn"t cracked or sucking air so the pump won"t prime.

I packed the pump with grease, I am thinking it has clogged relief, pump will come off tomorrow night.

I will follow up after that.

I'm not trying to be a smart butt or anything, just trying to get some clarity. Why did you pack it with grease? I would have probably done the same thing. Is this an issue?

I got a suggestion on here and thought it sounded good. I would coat the parts with heavy oil next time, no grease.
