My 65 has the gray belly paint coming off in spades. What I notice though is whats beneath it. RED? It looks original. I see bare cast iron then red. I wonder if anyone knows if some of these came with a red belly from the factory? I cant remember the yr off the top of my head, but 58 or 59 is coming to mind. So, does anyone know? Thanks

I agree, it is the red primer, these tractors had a flint grey metallic
coloured chassis.

The deepest solid coat on my '59 MF 50 is a light blue. I was hoping for bronze, I suppose under that is a red oxide primer.

I wondered if it was a primer. it is def the first layer. I just figured they put the flint on bare cast. I knew they come w/gray but back in those days I know things arent always perfect, for example. Hey boss, just ran out of flint. We got 3 65's waiting for paint. Boss; just paint them red. Ford, chevy and dodge all did this. Not necessarily with paint, but with part exchanging.
