| I should have thought about engine size.I checked the block and I believe I can see a 277g stamped on upper right of block. My 44 has 260 in raised letters on the block. |

| Their are quite a few items different, you had mentioned seat, shifter, and hyd valves. Throttle is back on top for all 53's, fenders have conduits for wiring, platform is wider giving more space between fenders, pto shifter and cover is different, steering wheel stand is different, gas tank filler is to the rear of the tank, the hyd. pump was 10 gpm, the 44 was only 7.25. The hyd tank is oval shape and holds more fluid, the hyd relief valve is in the cast cover by the pto shifter. Add the cast front and rear wheels and the 277 engine, and I think the front frame is heavier also, there almost completely different tractors, I have both and the special will pull the tail off the 44 on not to much more fuel. |

| | The 44 special would have a H277 motor, which would be stamped on the casting. Either a 44 or special could have cast wheels and live PTO. Post a serial number, it will be on a tag on side of frame, and stamped on top of transmission. |
