First, the rear bolts into the hydraulic cylinder sheared, then I fixed that problem. Then I put it all back together and all worked fine. I pulled the lift all the way back to the aux position, because I did not think it was as high as it should have been, popped again. This time when I took it apart it had cracked the cylinder. I normally just mow with this tractor, some garden work but not much. I noticed that the top link had vibrated all the way out. Could this have caused this? I have a new cylinder ready to install, but I don't want to tear this one up also.

Thank you all so very much! I will be looking for a pressure relief valve and some tools!

Hi Ed,
It is essential to have the correct special tools to carry out the hydraulic adjustments.
More importantly is the fact that the linkage must NOT lift and jam otherwise it can break the cylinder as you have found. At full lift you must ALWAYS be able to lift it a little higher by hand. The settings put the pump into neutral to give the safety zone.

unless you have access to the special tools needed to adjust the lift you will be time and money ahead to take it and get it set before reinstalling it, then you will need the gauge to set the response control with after you get the lift back on the tractor before you install the response control cover, learned that the hard way

Jersey has nailed it, replace the relief valve ASAP. Even if the adjustments are out of whack, the new valve will save you from re-visiting this problem again.
