1105 opinions.

There is an 1105 coming up in an auction soon. We've been looking to get a little more tillage power than the 1080. How is this tractor to use? Is it too big/too much for sm. sq baler/aybine? What is the price range to look for? We are in the northeast.

These are a nice tractor. The only thing I don't care for is the parking brake. On a hill they can be hard to get out of park. Other than that they are a nice tractor and will be fine with any equipment as long as you use your head and not force any thing. As for what kind of shape it is in. 4000 to 7500 here in WI.

Thanks for the replies.
I like my 1080 but find that it doesn't quite work like an 80 hp tractor...i know the 1100s had some issues with the rear end...
but i think the 1105 would probably be a good machine...like anything else, it depends on how it was treated in its past life.

The 1105's were pretty decent tractors. The most common problem is with the hydraulics. The charge pumps tend to get weak with age. If you can run it make sure the steering works well at idle, if you have to rev it alot to turn the wheels, there could be problems. As said the park can be a pain. Pretty decent on fuel for its size. I used to use one on the baler all the time.

Thanks for the info, at this auction you can usually ride and drive if you et there early. So I'll definitely take a good look at the steering.

The 1105 is a good tractor. There is a sump in the bottom of the rear end with a screen to catch shavings and 'stuff'. It should be cleaned periodically and is really easy to do. It operates like your 1080 with only a few differences. The steering tilt lever is on the lower left side of the column. The PTO engagement lever is on the dash. And the manual unloading valve is new and under your right foot when seated. As someone said, the charge pump is a weakness. Check brakes, steering, multipower and hydraulics after its warmed up.

It should have a 2 speed pto. Four bolts and a different stub shaft is all it takes to change speeds. Not even any oil mess.
