Was there ever any changes made to the massey 44 crankshafts? I need one for a regular 44 with a 260 motor in it. I located one from a 44 special with a 277 but part of the casting number is different. The crank i have is a h260-603 and this one has h260-604 cast in it. Thanks

How close are you to Springfield Missouri? I have a dozen or so H260 engines I am parting out.

Good cranks are hard to come by, they wore badly. Most will need grinding or building up.

Martin, I have a crank for a 260 but it would have to be trued up, also shipping would probably be to costly. I live in south Sask Canada. ---------Harold

Thanks but i think i will look around here a little closer for parts i need. I just bought the tractor knowing the crank was bad and happened to stumble on this 277 crank.

I have a friend who was looking for a good 277 crank earlier this summer - not sure if he still needs one - but if there is one available, I'd like to get him the details as I kind of owe him for giving him a 277 with a bad crank.

The 44 Special with the H-277 engine has a flanged center main bearing to take up the end thrust, the H-260 used shims in front of the front main. Two completely different set ups. I have heard that a person can use a 260 crank in a 277 and use the shim set up on the front main by also using the 260 front main cap, but not the other way around. Maybe the 260 crank could be machined to work with the center flanged main, I have never had the need to check it out.

I am not an expert, but I believe there were two styles. They were thrust in the front and thrust in the middle. I have a 44 with the thrust in the front.
