Hello All, A small flat metal spring broke loose from the inside cover of my MF230 dsl. It caused havoc on my oil pump but no damage to the crank gear. It looks like the rivet head wore and the spring fell. It also looks like it mounts in the area of the camshaft gear. What is for and when I replace it does it need to be resting on the cam gear?

| Hello CM,
The spring should be located between two aluminium 'banks' in the timing cover. Yours should be the same. In the free state it should be approximately 1/16" proud of the aluminium so that it only exerts gentle pressure on the camshaft.
