Yes I went and installed a forklift on big red and now she doesn't steer so well.... not really thought through but hey, I got it cheap.

So now the search begins.

Do any of you fine folk know of where I could get myself and entire kit, prepared to be subjected to obscense shipping charges if outside Australia....

Never found an entire intact kit when I had to find one for my gas 65. I ended up getting the power steering cylinder and supports off a 65 diesel, bought a new pump (the ones at wreckers were the same price as the new aftermarket), and fabricated some lines. The gas and diesels used very different pump set ups (and different pumps for some of the years). I also had to swap around the front steering arm since the diesel had a beefier pedestal shaft that the gas front steering arm would not fit onto.

yep, the pivit housing- or 'basket'? as some people call it, is different for every fuel and maker of engine- so atleast 4 varieties out there. All due to the bolt pattern around the front of the engines. And the pumps are one off...specific? for the same reasons. A great tractor, but picky when it comes to spare parts- so whatever you do- don't ever break anything!
It might be better to use ozzie inginuity to cobble up a steering assist cylinder from the frame to a tie rod or???

Umph. Good thing you got it cheap, the PS will cost as much as another tractor. In the mean time, can you add weight to the hitch- a 3 point 50 gallon drum full of good ozzie rocks? Or any heavy implement small enough to not cause backing up traffic accidents or get you in a bind. It would be hard to engineer a home made power steering, this modell's is the most complex I've seen yet. good luck!

Hugh

There used to be a good after market kit for this in Australia. The pump fitted into the left hand side of the Perkins engine and the whole think was very neat.

I have not seen one for many years. I look at every tractor wreckers that I visit for one, but no luck so far.

I will probably have to bit the bullet and fabricate something similar to the DIY Tractor Power Steering Conversion Massey Ferguson 202 Workbull posted on youtube. You can google for the details

The only major problem I have with my old 65 is terrible steering.

The inventor, purchasing agent, fitter/welder, producer, director and narrator, is 'Inno' on this forum. If you ask him nicely, I'm sure he will explain the whole thing... I just wish we could did this job for ten dollar bills insted of hundreds.....
