On a 550, what is the proper brake fluid? My manual doesn't specify. |

Is 1984 older? I don't think DOT4 was on the market here then, would have probably been DOT3.
I am aware of the Green labels being mineral/LHM etc from dealing with DBs. No green tags/rubberbands/caps that I see. |

| As a rule, if it is an older machine it will require specification "Dot 4" standard brake fluid. Reservoir and cap carry no special markings. Later models requiring anything different, usually carry a "green" tag on the master cylinder or reservoir cap. This designates a "mineral" type brake fluid. DO NOT mix the two. others may be able to help out more, Evan. |

| This will very much confirm what Evan has said. In the UK any master cylinders requiring mineral type fluid will have a green cap or tag on them. MF's combine brake fluid requirement is for DOT 4 fluid to MF spec M-1123. This conforms to SAE J 1703 and DIN ISO 4925. It has better operating characteristics than DOT 3. DavidP, South Wales |
