position control

Hi,
What is a 'C' clamp? To have a movable adjustment for the position control lever all you need is a bolt to fit in the slot, preferably with flats to stop it turning and a knob or butterfly nut of some sort to suit.

what I'm really wanting to know is if position control is nothing more than the knob itself that provides a stopping point when lowering attachment, ie; it has nothing to do internally w/ tractor at all?

What tractor are you using? I include some scanss from a MF 168 handbook but the principal is the same for most MF tractors

Position control is an internal part of the hydraulic system. It is a cam and series of linkages and springs that controls the rise and fall of the rear linkage to keep it at your preset height. This height is set by the knurled knob affair on the hydraulic control quadrant and yes a 'C' (or to us, David a 'G' ) clamp would help to set this height but it the message sent internally to the hydraulic control valve that maintains this height.

Thanks for your help....I have a 245, according to the owners manual the second picture is the position control knob but I don't see how it can control anything internally as it just looks like a knob that can be adjusted and act as a "stop" for my control lever..??

Having had the unique pleasure of yanking the lift cover off of a 245 recently with my bare hands, I can assure you that there are several levers, springs, rollers, etc that work in concert with each other to produce the hydraulic harmony of the Ferguson System lift. It is not a stop for the Draft lever even though there are specific times when it appears to do just that. Follow the diagrams above and you can't go wrong. Draft for ground engaging equipment and Position for basic lifting. Did I say that the lift cover is really HEAVY? :-(

I think I have finally figured it out,...I was assuming all tractors hydralics operated the same and the position control was an added feature. Now I understand mine always operates with position control (unless using draft control). And the knob I was refering to is just a locator knob. Thanks all.
