Would like info on 2 tractors and a combine, just the good and bad.

1080 and 1085. Need a tractor in that size range and they fit my budget and I know a guy with a 410 combine with the corn head and pickup that I can get cheap enough. Just getting the family farm going again so money is an issue.

Thanks for any and all imput!

Rick

Just maybe my off wall opinion,it seems any MF with an 8 in the number has more then its share of troubles.85,180,1080,1085.A 510 was better than a 410 but for not much or any more a 7xx is better.

I should add that I will only be combining about 30 acres the first few years.

Massey333 thanks, what were the problems with the 80 series? Tractor would be used running a haybine and round baler, may put a loader on it to move bales.

I've spent quite a bit of time in MR 410 combines. It should work fine for you for only 30 acres.

But as with anything that old, expect some problems. Anything with that kind of age will have some issues.

1080 and 1085 had headgasket problems along with other things. read some of the older posts and youll find not many people like these models

Like the other poster said motor problems and trans problems seem to be it.Why I don't know, but the number 8 seems tobe a bad omen for MF.There are good ones out there, but if there is a problem one, that number comes up for some reason.I don't mean anything bad but just my view. The combine thing would be to check on PARTS avaliablity on that model.Good luck Rick in what ever you decide.

We ran a 410 over 250 acres of corn and beans for many years back in the 70's. Ours was a good little machine.

Can't tell you much about the 1080, 1085, but we have a 285 (very similar) that has been a good tractor.

JP.

I was looking at a 1085 and a service manager at a massey dealer told me not to buy it because they seem to get worked on more than they get used.
