MF35 Transmission Fluid - what is it?

Please pardon my ignorance (I did try to search first - there's 2 hours I won't get back), but I have no idea what type of fluid goes in the transmission of my tractor... I know they used everything from ATF to mineral oil to who-knows-what in the transmissions back-in-the-day. I do not want to add anything that will cause a problem.... What do I buy? Can I get it at an auto-parts store? Wal*Mart, maybe? Does it specify in the manuals (maybe it is time for me to order a set of manuals)??? Any idea which manuals I should get? (links to the store, please)... Thanks...

Tractor Supply is now selling a transmission oil for Ford tractors
from 1939 to 1952 that is just what is needed. It's a Gl-1 oil that
has no additives that will harm any bronze bushings that are in the
transmission/hydraulic pump. It will fit the bill for the MF35 as
well.

You can use a Hyd-Tran from most farm or parts store, also 303 Hyd will work. Real specks on bucket for Massey. Don't use just Hydraulic Oil, it will foam, make sure it's Hyd-Tran.I buy from Atwoods and Tractor Supply. Massey dealer will have there oil but will cost a arm and leg.Same oil but in Massey bucket.Cost is about $30--$35 for 5 gal. I think it will take 8 gal if it has been drained.

Drain the rear end also. Same oil goes to all points, lift, rear end, and tran.If you worked on seals its best to change it all. 8 gal for everything.

Right now, I'm just 'topping off'... The change is scheduled during/after splitting for new seals/clutch/filter/etc this coming winter... :D

First off, the MF 35's used two different oils, depending on whether it had Multi power or not. If it does not have multi-power, then it is a SAE 90 Mineral oil (NOT NOT NOT 90W gear lube). It is relatively thin, but not as thin as a universal hy-tran oil.
Now, if it does have Multi-power then a universal hy-tran oil will work. Massey # was M-1127, Mobil # DTE26? i think. Tractor supply has both, the guy that made the comment about the TSC oil listed for the old fords is for the non-multi power version.
Also the rear end and transmission oil is all the same compartment- it just has two drain plugs. 7-8 gallons to full.

Thanks... I guess I forgot to mention that it had multi-power (that still works - sorta)... Didn't know it made a difference... Learning something new every day on here... :D
