MF 65 diesel head bolt torque

Hi,
If you are using a standard copper gasket the figure is 60 lb.ft in stages. If you are using the later 'black' design you can go to 65-68 lb.ft, again in stages.
Start off with the most central bolt and work diagonally in increasing circles. Number each one as you go with chalk and then count the final number to make sure you've got 'em all.

Just curious, where did you find the tension spec for the "composite" type gasket? I believed the tensions were the same for both types.

Hi Evan,
The figures for the copper gasket were provided by the Training School in Coventry whilst on a course there. This figure is for the AD3.152 but I was told that as the AD4.203 is a four cylinder version of the 152, that the figures are the same.
The figures for the 'black' gasket come from Bepco UK. I had a case recently where I had a gasket failure on a 203 165 and coolant ingress into a cylinder due to a cracked liner.
Stand-down was correct so I thought it best to confirm the figures with Bepco. Their tech dept came back with the revised figure.
I replaced the gasket some 3 years previously using a 'black' gasket with the figures provided by the School. I was a little surprised to find that the cyl head nuts were not as tight as I would have expected them to be.
