Diff lock bracket part no. (for David P or anyone else) MF40

Hi guys, we have a broken bracket where the diff lock lever would attach. Part of the part number can be seen on the casting. Unfortunately, none of the brackets for either the 135 or 165 in the parts books are the correct shape (or have the correct part no.)

Help would be greatly appreciated!

Many thanks

I'm wondering whether one could take the missing bit from a new 165 bracket and weld it on to the old bracket - the shape is such that the std 165 bracket isn't a direct replacement according to the parts book...

Hi,
You are unfortunate?? to have a slightly rare tractor with dual brakes fitted. The outer shoe set-up was for industrial tractors and I believe that many are fitted in Germany to comply with the law there. I have checked the UK 165 parts book book. It shows the dual brake arrangement up to a serial number to be announced. Then it shows the new type of diff pedal pivot bracket from a serial number TBA. Looks like yours might have been made in that in-between time if US production was in line with UK production.
Having just looked at my 165 the bracket would appear to be the same but with the addition of the hole for the secondary brake shaft.
The bracket number is 1860 972M1.
It should not be too difficult to have the hole bored and bushed if there is one fitted.
It would appear that the coupling on the diff input plunger is different. Is the plunger free? Is it tightness here that has required you to put more pressure on the pedal resulting in the broken bracket?

Thanks both, much appreciated!

David, I'm afraid it came like that, thus I am missing both the lever and the part of the bracket it attached to! I will be asking our local MF chap to ensure that it all works - assuming I can get all the parts I need...

The part where the lever hooks up on the diff, looks like a
homemade replacement, as ours looks similar to yours, David.
I'm sure the broken bracket is a result of excessive pressure on
the lever, as the right foot is needed to control the forward
reverse movement of the tractor, so it's up to the right hand. I've
caught myself jamming it pretty hard, when I engage while
spinning, which of course is the wrong procedure, not to
mention those parts are probably rarely lubed, so that could
aggravate it. Generally it goes in fairly easy if selected before the
spinning starts and all is working properly (free, not frozen from
rust). I know the handle on ours has been replaced, You should
probably try a NAmerican wrecker/salvage yard. Check for any
movement on the diff portion with a prybar or similar and start
lub application immediately if frozen, along with some gentle
massage with a hammer and prybar till it moves freely. That may
take some days right there while you wait for the bracket. Best of
luck.
